100 Day Design Challenge

I officially began on February 26, 2017 and completed the design challenge on June 5, 2017. I began with little to no design knowledge, and my goal was to become familiar and quicker with design tools and see how much I've improved from Day 1 all the way to Day 100.

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in the past 100 days was that designing wasn’t just simply placing nice colours and shapes onto a page. It’s really about solving the greater user experience problem, to provide a seamless, problem-free experience for all users, whether it be within an app or a website.

Final day for this app. This was a really cool app to create.

My key takeaways from creating this app includes:

  • Use of the gradient tool on lines: For cohesiveness, the lines needed to have a gradient effect on them to match well with the background gradient effect.

  • Creation of simple but effective icons: I used simple shapes ranging from rectangles, triangles and circles to create symbols that are easily understood.

  • Colour synchronization: In order to have the app/page to look as a whole, colour must match well with the rest of the elements on the page. Everyday, I had a different colour for each page, and I had to find the right colours for each specific element to make the whole page as one unit, than a page with different units.
