100 Day Design Challenge

I officially began on February 26, 2017 and completed the design challenge on June 5, 2017. I began with little to no design knowledge, and my goal was to become familiar and quicker with design tools and see how much I've improved from Day 1 all the way to Day 100.

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in the past 100 days was that designing wasn’t just simply placing nice colours and shapes onto a page. It’s really about solving the greater user experience problem, to provide a seamless, problem-free experience for all users, whether it be within an app or a website.

At first, this calculator app was very tedious. I had to continuously change the sizes and fonts of every circle/text on the app so it looked consistent throughout.

It was after the creation of the app when the fun began. I didn't want to have another image that's just flat on a square artboard. I've seen designs where the mobile would be lying flat on an angle. So I decided to try it out.

First, I had to transform the image in a way where it'd make sense. It took some trial and error at first, but after a couple of tries, I was able to get the angle I wanted it to be in. Next, I would need to rotate the transformed image. After positioning the image the way I wanted it, I decided to create a shadow. So, I duplicated the image and moved it down a bit. I filled the colour in with grey. Then came the challenging part. The shadow was too sharp. I had to look for a tool that would blur the shadow. Luckily, I was able to find the correct tool: Motion Blur @ 50px. I was able to create the effect I wanted with this tool.

So happy with the shadow outcome because I was able to learned something I've been wanting to try out for a long time. :)
